What Is The East Mountain Area? It's the green slope of the Sandia and Manzano Mountains located just 8 miles east of Albuquerque. This collection of small communities, only a few of which are incorporated, provides a rural lifestyle amid the open spaces of forest and rolling meadows.
The Turquoise Trail- New Mexico Highway 14, (The Turquoise Trail) winds north from the village of Tijeras through the communities of Cedar Crest and Sandia Park. New Mexico Highway 337 winds south from the Village through Cibola National Forest and the communities of Ramblewood and Manzanito. Highway 40, Interstate Highway 40, takes you east 10 miles through Tablazon and Sedillo to the community of Edgewood.
The Green Side- situated at a higher elevation, the Green Side receives more rain and snowfall than the Rio Grande Valley of the city. The largest neighbor is Cibola National Forest which offers Alpine and Cross Country Skiing, hiking and riding trails, picnic and camping areas among its numerous recreational facilities.
Schools- The East Mountain area is served by three Elementary (K-5), two middle (6-8) schools and two high schools. These schools are all in the Albuquerque or Moriarty Public Schools Systems and bus service is provided.
Commercial District- The commercial districts, although small, provide a full range of services for the residents including Banking, Restaurants, Grocery Stores, Hardware and Auto Parts, Florists, Video Stores, Auto Repair, Gas Stations and A Business Service Center. These businesses do it the old fashioned way with emphasis on friendly, personal service.
